Ahh this song brings back memories. This, my friends, is the first Brand New song I have ever heard. This is the song that made me hooked. I'll be honest. The one and only reason I gave Brand New a listen in the first place is because Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is one of my all time favorite movies. I saw the title of this song and I lol'd. I thought that this band must be good if they're pulling quotes from a wicked awesome movie. This song is the most in-your-face, eat sh!t song that Brand New has out there. "Get down on your knees and tell me you love me..."
In this song, Jesse Lacey is cocky with a capital C. I am heaven sent. Don't you dare forget. I am all you ever wanted. What all the other boys all promised. This girl must know what she's missing. Lacey wants to just rub it in her face even more. I love the lonesome guitar intro. His voice sounds so serious and strong. He just exudes confidence. He wants everyone on Earth to know what a terrible person the girl he's singing to is. I hope this song starts a craze. The kind of song that ignites the airwaves. If Lacey can't have her because she's a cheater, no one will have her. He wants her to pay for what she's done. This is war. Those three words just scream hatred. Cause you can't keep a secret if it never was a secret to start. At least pretend you didn't wanna get caught. No matter what, your heart should go out to Jesse Lacey right there. This girl was sneaking around behind his back and did not even care. She got caught and doesn't feel sorry at all. What a meanie.
We're concentrating on falling apart. We were contenders, we're throwing the fight. I just wanna believe. I just wanna believe. I just wanna believe in us. The chorus shows a different side of Lacey's pain. The first verse is him being just plain mad. Now we're starting to see him missing this girl and perhaps wanting to work out their differences. Once a cheater, always a cheater, I’d say in this situation.
We are entirely smooth. We admit to the truth, we are the best at what we do. I've never agreed with a statement more in my entire life. Brand New is the best at what they do and they are incredibly smooth. This is the way you wish your voice sounds, handsome and smart. Oh my tongue is the only muscle on my body that works harder than my heart. There goes the cocky thing again. I think Jesse Lacey deserves to be cocky. He is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I've actually seem interviews where Jesse has said that himself and the rest of the band mates know that stardom changes people into jerks, but BN wouldn't let that happen to them. I sure hope they wouldn't. Oh, it hurts to always have to be honest with the one that you love. Oh, so let it go. BAM! In your face, cheater! He doesn't love her anymore. Good for you, Jesse.
As you have all read, I think that the ending makes or breaks a song. This song has the number 3 best ending on my countdown. Sure, it just has the chorus replayed again. But it's the beauty that happens before the last chorus, bringing me to the best quote.
Best quote(s): This is the grace only we can bestow. This is the price you pay for loss of control. This is the break in the bend. This is the closest of calls. This is the reason you're alone. This is the rise and the fall. That last sentence is the closest to screamo that Brand New ever gets. But it's okay because they can pull it off. After a song like that, they can pull anything off. This rhyming is amazing. It is really a perfect piece of work.
